Autumn in Pastels

Realistic soft pastel drawing of an autumn leaf with red, orange, and yellow tones, hand-rendered on a white background to capture the texture and colours of a fallen leaf.

There is something quietly satisfying about recreating nature with a medium that seems determined to resist precision. Soft pastels are known for their richness of color, but capturing the delicate curves, subtle veins, and natural gradients of a leaf can be a challenge.

This drawing was an exercise in observation and restraint—layering color, blending tones, and allowing the texture of the pastel to suggest the imperfections that make a leaf feel alive. The warm reds and yellows of a turning leaf offered the perfect subject, reminding me that nature often creates its most striking art just before letting go.

A simple leaf, perhaps. But also a study in color, patience, and the beauty hidden in ordinary things.
